01 — Local relevance

Why a fabricator based in Swindon works for Berkshire.

West Berkshire is on the M4/A4 corridor that runs east out of Swindon, so Hungerford, Newbury, Thatcham and the Downs villages are natural territory for us. Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell are longer runs but regular ones — we work them into the diary rather than pretending they're on the doorstep.

Berkshire property is a study in contrasts. The Downs and Kennet Valley villages — Hungerford, Kintbury, Lambourn — feel much closer to rural Wiltshire in scale and material palette. Newbury and Thatcham mix Georgian and Victorian town-centre stock with large modern estates. Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell are dense suburban and commercial. Each needs a different steel fabrication approach.

Berkshire has a serious equestrian belt — Lambourn is one of the historic centres of British flat racing, and the yards and estates around it need serious fabrication: heavy field gates, yard partitions, tack-room fabrication, arena fencing. We build to actual horse loads.

03 — Common Berkshire problems

The steel work we're asked for most in Berkshire.

Berkshire property stock ranges from Downs-village stone-and-brick cottages around Lambourn and Hungerford, through Georgian and Victorian town-centre housing in Newbury and Thatcham, out to dense modern suburban and commercial estates in Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell. The equestrian belt around Lambourn drives heavy yard, gate and fencing work; the modern estates drive Juliet balconies, feature stairs and structural steel for extensions.

Equestrian gates, fencing and yard fabrication around Lambourn

The Lambourn racing valley and the estates around it need genuinely heavy-gauge fabrication — field gates that a horse can't break, stable partitions, yard fencing. We build to that spec, not to garden-centre weight.

Steel beams for Newbury and Thatcham extensions

Georgian, Victorian and mid-century Newbury and Thatcham stock routinely needs steel beams for extensions and knock-throughs. We supply UBs, UCs and PFCs sized to your Structural Engineer's calcs.

External fire escapes on Reading and Bracknell commercial

Reading and Bracknell's dense commercial stock generates regular external fire-escape and secondary-means-of-escape work. Fabricated in line with Part B (fire) and Part K (protection from falling), properly finished.

Feature staircases and balustrades on Downs new-builds

Newer detached and executive stock across the Downs villages consistently asks for architectural steel — feature staircases, glass-infill balustrades, Juliet balconies — that the housebuilder never fitted.

Climate & exposure
Berkshire is broadly sheltered but the Downs villages catch enough weather that external steel needs a full galvanised or primer/top-coat corrosion system. Suburban Reading and Bracknell are milder but the corrosion spec doesn't change — we don't cut it based on postcode.
Access & infrastructure
Access considerations across Berkshire include tight town-centre streets in Newbury and Hungerford (parking, delivery windows), and busy suburban and commercial estates in Reading and Bracknell where crane and lifting operations need proper traffic-management planning. We survey for all of that up front.

Call the workshop — you'll get a fabricator, not a call centre.

Do you serve Berkshire?+

How fast can you reach a Berkshire site?+

West Berkshire is 30–40 minutes from the workshop and typically surveyed within 2 working days. Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell are longer runs but booked into the normal week.

Every job is quoted after a free site survey. Prices depend on materials, finish system and access — a Juliet balcony and a full fire escape sit in different price bands.

Do you cover equestrian yards around Lambourn?+

Yes. Heavy-gauge field gates, stable-yard partitions and arena/yard fencing are a real slice of what we do in west Berkshire.

Can you work with a main contractor on Reading or Bracknell sites?+
