01 — Overview

What bespoke metalwork & gym kit actually is — and when to commission it.

What it is

Bespoke metalwork is anything welded and fabricated that doesn't exist off a shelf — from a garden feature to a custom home-gym rig. If it can be drawn or described, it can be built.

Who it's for

Homeowners in Swindon with an idea that isn't a standard product, garden designers commissioning steel features, and fitness enthusiasts wanting a home gym rig sized for their space and training style.

When it's needed

When the standard product doesn't exist, doesn't fit, or doesn't do the job. When you want something that's actually yours.

Why professional help matters

Bespoke metalwork lives with you every day. A rig that flexes under load, a feature that rusts in a season, or a weld that pops the first time it's tested — none of that is what you commissioned. Getting it right takes real welding experience and a fabricator who cares about the piece.

02 — What happens if you get it wrong

The four failures we see when bespoke metalwork & gym kit is done cheaply.

Domestic-grade rigs that flex under load

Off-the-shelf home rigs are often built to a price. Loaded to real training weight, they wobble.

Features that don't survive one winter

Untreated mild steel outdoors is a season away from being an eyesore.

'Almost-fits' compromise

Standard-size product forced into a bespoke space rarely looks intentional. Bespoke fabrication makes the piece fit the space.

No accountability

Buying a kit online means shipping-damage arguments and no one to install it. Working with a local fabricator means one person owns the outcome.

05 — In detail

Materials, methods, variations — the full picture.

This is the technical detail that separates a fabricator from a supplier. Read it, or skim the headings — either way, it's what you're paying for.

Custom gym rigs

Home and garage gym rigs built to your ceiling height, floor space and training style — squat racks, pull-up rigs, wall-mounted pull-up bars, dip stations, plate storage, kettlebell trees, functional-training rigs, and full multi-station power racks. Fabricated from heavy-wall box section, drilled for adjustable J-cups, safety bars and accessories. Bolted to floor or wall as required.

Garden & architectural features

Steel pergolas, arbours, planters, log stores, fire-pit surrounds, garden screens, sculptural pieces, feature bracketing and cantilevered canopies. Finished for external life so the feature stays sharp.

Interior features & fittings

Industrial-style room dividers, steel-framed shelving units, custom kitchen brackets and shelf supports, steel-framed furniture bases, bar and counter frames, and one-off feature pieces to an architect's or designer's brief.

Trade & workshop commissions

Custom jigs, workshop racking, forklift attachments, bespoke brackets, small structural fabrications for a builder's out-of-catalogue problem, and one-off machinery guards.

Materials & finish

Mild steel is the default for both structural rigs and features. The right protective finish depends on where the piece lives — we specify an appropriate primer and top-coat system, matt black being the dominant modern aesthetic, as part of your written quote.

Call the workshop — you'll get a fabricator, not a call centre.

How much does a custom gym rig cost?+

A basic wall-mounted rig is a few hundred pounds installed; a full free-standing power rack with accessories runs into the low thousands. Every rig is quoted from your dimensions and requirements — free and written.

How much does bespoke metalwork cost?+

It depends entirely on the piece. Small features start in the low hundreds; larger installations run into the low thousands. Every quote is free after a chat about what you're trying to achieve.

How long does bespoke work take?+

Lead times vary by project — small pieces turn round faster than larger rigs and installations. You get a written lead time with your quote.

Do I need a technical drawing to get a quote?+

No. A sketch, reference photo or clear description is a fine starting point. We turn it into a fabrication drawing at design stage.

Do you install what you make?+

Yes — everything we fabricate we can deliver and install.

Do you offer a guarantee?+

Yes — on fabrication and installation, in writing.

Can you match a specific colour or finish?+

Yes — powder coat is available in a wide range of RALs, and we can match wet-paint finishes to your reference.

Do you take bespoke commissions outside Swindon?+

Yes — across Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol.
